Culture Action Europe (CAE) announces an innovative two-day international conference about the vital role of cultural capacities in building a way out of the deadlock that threatens Europe, its people and democracy. Placed in space and time to maximize its impact on the agenda for the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union that will begin in July 2014, the conference conversations, debates and short lectures will involve leading personalities in the European scene of decision-making, cultural organisations, academia and civil society.

Erstes Vorarlberger Demokratie Repaircafé & Kunst erfolgreich absolviert

Das neue und künstlerisch angereicherte Kooperationsformat zur Beteiligung junger Menschen an Politik und Demokratie, das Demokratie Repaircafé & Kunst, fand erstmals in der privaten katholischen Mittelschule Ludesch statt und überzeugte in seiner Wirkung. Sowohl die IG Kultur Vorarlberg und IG Demokratie als auch die kooperierende Schule für globales Lernen, die Workshopleiter und die 30 Schülerinnen und Schüler im Alter von 13 bis 15 Jahren äußerten den Wunsch nach Fortführung des Beteiligungsprojekts.

Zur Lage der Kultur

Wie ist es um die Kultur in Europa bestellt? Welchen Stellenwert hat sie und welche Herausforderungen stehen an? Der europäische Dachverband der Kunst- und Kulturvertretungen, Culture Action Europe, hat eine schonungslose Bestandsaufnahme zur Lage der Kultur vorgenommen. Sein Fazit: Der Kultursektor muss sein Handeln grundlegend überdenken, wenn die Politik Kultur als eigenständiges Politikfeld und zentralen Faktor für gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen wieder ernst nehmen soll. Eine provokante Lektüre, inklusive Einladung zum Dialog.

Appell: Künstlerische Freiheit und Autonomie schützen!

Politische Einmischungen von Regierungen in die Arbeit von Kulturorganisationen nehmen europaweit zu. Angesichts des Erstarkens rechtsextremer Parteien stehen Einschränkungen der Kunstfreiheit und Autonomie von Kulturräumen immer häufiger auf der Tagesordnung. In einem EU-weiten Aufruf, initiiert von Culture Action Europe, fordern wir die Institutionen der EU sowie die EU-Mitgliedstaaten auf zu handeln: Für einen effektiven Schutz und Sicherung der künstlerischen Freiheit und Autonomie!
